Volunteers are absolutely crucial to our organization and the level of care that we provide. Our volunteers make a huge difference in the lives of our patients and their families by offering their time, support, and companionship.
Visiting with patients gives them a sense of companionship that helps their mental health. Our patients love our volunteers! You can sit and visit and just be a listening ear, you can play music for the patient, read a book, play a game, or do a craft together.
Administrative volunteers can help in our hospice office. This could entail filing, putting together mailings for our families, creating flyers, etc.
Being a primary caregiver for a hospice patient can be overwhelming, especially when it's someone's own parent or spouse. We need volunteers that can provide some relief for our caregivers by helping them run errands, do chores, or keep their family member company while they take an hour for themselves.
11th Hour Volunteers visit patients in their final moments to provide comfort to the patient as well as to their families. They undergo special training so that they know exactly what to do during their visits. This type of volunteer opportunity is challenging but it can also be a very rewarding experience. Typically, these volunteers would have times in which they are "on call" so they can be ready to visit a patient if they are needed. They are more than welcome to act as a regular Direct Visit volunteers when they are not doing 11th Hour visits.
Volunteers can help out by sewing memory bears, making fidget blankets, creating cards, etc. If you would love to craft something for our patients, please reach out! We're open to hearing more ideas from you too.
Volunteers don't need to fit into one of the above categories in order to help. We are always looking for volunteers that would like to help out in their own ways whether it be giving hair cuts, mowing lawns, or helping families through the grieving process. If you would like to volunteer in a way that wasn't mentioned above, please fill out the contact form below.
All volunteers will be required to complete an orientation and training period based on their position before they can start volunteering.
All potential volunteers must submit their Driver's License and Social Security Card so that we can perform a background check. Proof of car insurance will also be required for volunteers whose positions require driving on shift.
Administrative volunteers must be at least 16 years old to volunteer in our office. Volunteers that perform direct visits with patients must be at least 18 years old. People under the age of 18 may still perform patient visits if their parent or guardian also completes training and accompanies them.
We are very flexible and will work with your schedule in terms of when and how often you are able to give your time. We do however require a time commitment of at least 2 hours per month.
